What was Blotted Out by the Cross?

“I Have Blotted Out… Thy Sins”

Col 2:13, 14 “…having ***forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us,*** which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

He forgave your trespasses, your transgressions, and your sin was “blotted out” and nailed “to his cross”. Let’s look at some more verses allowing scripture to explain itself.

Isa 44:22 I have ***blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins:*** return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.

Psa 51:1 …according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies ***blot out my transgressions. ***

Psa 51:9 Hide thy face from my sins, and ***blot out all mine iniquities.***

The Ceremonial Law

The ceremony, and sacrifices which were done in the evenings and mornings, also on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and Holy Days. (See Num 28, 29) Symbolized the blotting out of your sin, and the penalty for breaking God’s law. The law which was witnessing “against us”(Col 2:14, Deu 31:26) This law witnesses against us today if we fail to accept the blood of Christ. But he has taken our penalty out of the way, nailing it to his cross. Notice the connection of the offerings and sacrifices to the blotting out of your sins.

Isa 43:23 Thou hast not brought me the small cattle of thy burnt offerings; neither hast thou honoured me with thy sacrifices. I have not caused thee to serve with an offering, nor wearied thee with incense.
Isa 43:24 Thou hast bought me no sweet cane with money, neither hast thou filled me with the fat of thy sacrifices: but thou hast made me to serve with thy sins, thou hast wearied me with thine iniquities.
Isa 43:25 I, even ***I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions*** for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins

Now, since the bible tells us we were to do these sacrifices and offerings in the evenings and mornings, on the Sabbaths, on the New Moons, and on the feast days. (See Num 28, 29, 1 Chro 23:30-32) Does this mean that these days of assembly were also blotted out?

Col 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

Let no man judge you in respect to the keeping of these. Paul said regarding the sacrifices:

1Co 5:7 …or even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
1Co 5:8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Paul when speaking about them coming together (1 Cor 5:4) had no issue with feast keeping. In fact he was pro feast keeping. There are many today saying “Let us NOT keep the feast” but “they speak not according to this word” (Isa 8:20). They speak the opposite of the word, and are shutting out great light from themselves.

The MEAT and DRINK every NEW MOON

Sacrifices pointed out our transgression, and Christ conquered death. Therefore to put to death an animal would be an abomination and a denial of the blood of Christ. But what about the meat and drink? It mentions “meat” and “drink” during these appointed times.

Yes, there was something that was to replace the sacrifices. Christ died for us, and told us something regarding his body. He said:

Joh 6:55 For my flesh is ***meat*** indeed, and my blood is ****drink*** indeed.

We are told by Paul that this “meat” and “drink” symbolized the body of Christ and was to be done in remembrance of the cross.

1Co 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of ***the body of Christ?***

1Co 11:29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, ***not discerning the Lord’s body.***

Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but ***the body is of Christ.***

So the “meat” and “drink” in Colossians 2 symbolizes, or typifies “the body of Christ”. Jesus also told us that this “meat” and “drink” typified his “life”.

Joh 6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

Isn’t it interesting that the Lord’s Supper is typical of his life. And there is another food in the bible that typifies his life. That is the tree of life. And when will we come to the tree of life in heaven?

Rev 22:2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and ***yielded her fruit every month:*** and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

Every month the tree will yield fruit. The word month means “new moon”. This is where the term “month” originated. In bible times they were called “moons” or “moonths”. John the revelator new of one way to know a month. By the new moon. So the tree will produce this fruit every new moon. And does the bible not tell us that when we get to heaven we will come to worship every new moon?

Isa 66:22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
Isa 66:23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.

So to eat the Lord’s Supper on the new moon would be exactly what Paul is talking about since it is a type or shadow of the life of Christ. This is what typifies “the body of Christ” It also points to “things to come” (Col 2:17) When we come together to eat it with Christ, in the new heaven and earth at the tree of life, every Sabbath, Month, and Holy Day.

Luk 22:15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:
Luk 22:16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

In conclusion we learned:

1. Our Sins were nailed to the cross, blotted out
2. The Law was what pointed out our sin
3. The Law still witnesses against transgressors today
4. The meat and drink symbolize the body of Christ
5. This communion is to be done on new moons in heaven
6. Therefore we should keep Evenings, and Morning, Sabbaths, New Moons, and Feasts today
7. These appointed times are not nailed to his cross
8. Let us keep the feast.
